About Us
A Somali-led environmental and green development organization restoring land and strengthening resilience across North-East Somalia.
Environment and wellbeing are inseparable
CWB works directly with pastoralist, agro-pastoral, coastal and urban communities to address drought, land degradation, water scarcity and inadequate waste management.
What our name means
"Cagaarinta" is the Somali word for greening: the active process of restoring vegetation, land and life to a landscape. "Woqooyi Bari" means the North-East. Together: Greening the North-East.

How we work
1. Community-led design
Programs are shaped through consultation with community leaders, women's groups and youth.
2. Environment + livelihoods
Restoration is linked directly to household income and food security.
3. Locally appropriate solutions
Low-cost, replicable practices over imported models.
4. Partnership-based delivery
Working through and alongside government and community structures.
5. Evidence and learning
Monitoring data guides how our programs adapt.
6. Phased growth
Starting at community level and scaling on proven results and capacity.
Gender, youth & social inclusion
Women play a central role in natural-resource management in North-East Somalia and are disproportionately affected by environmental degradation. CWB is committed to women's meaningful participation in planning, decision-making and green livelihoods.
Young people are both affected by limited opportunity and a critical resource for environmental action. Our programs are inclusive of marginalized and displaced populations, with equitable access regardless of clan, gender or displacement status.
Environmental safeguarding
We apply a do-no-harm approach: screening activities for unintended ecological impacts, using native and locally appropriate species, and avoiding practices that could accelerate resource depletion.
